Philippe Blanchard, Managing Director of Total E&P PNG Limited
Tell us about your experiences since joining Total.
Since joining Total (Elf at the time) in 1995, I have done many different things, starting as a geophysicist involved in the discoveries made in Angola on block 17, then site manager in Nigeria on the OML 58 license in charge of operations, before being a commercial representative in North Africa in E&P new ventures. It means that I have been given the opportunity to evolve in different positions and skills, making all these years interesting and motivating.
What can you tell us about yourself? Any interests or hobbies?
Since engineering school, I knew that I would not be able to spend all my life at the same place doing the same thing. I need to be moving often, both geographically and professionally. I have been very lucky so far to have a family that understands that need, almost sharing it. We spend a lot of time travelling and visiting places during our time abroad.
How does your role assist Total and their commitment to better energies?
Today with the whole team at TEP PNG, we have the responsibility to progress and deliver the Papua LNG project in an efficient way while respecting Total rules and PNG regulations. Part of these rules are linked to the motto "committed to better energy", meaning for us that the project should be cost-effective so that gas can be affordable, clean (which means being careful about our environmental and social impact) and reliable.
"I am happy to be in Papua New Guinea to start an affiliate and launch an exciting LNG project"
